A few months ago, Oraz, a mechanic living in Turkmenistan, came across something strange. A new car was parked in his parking space. A white Lexus SUV. He could tell from the license plate that the car was from New Jersey, USA, but that wasn’t what was strange about it. What was strange was the shape of the car. It was almost brand new, unlike the dented cars he usually repaired.

Oraz wants to know: How did this car get to my shop? What kind of place and what kind of person would discard such a good new car? These questions lead us on a journey through the international used car underground…all the way back to a cozy two-story home in suburban New Jersey.
