War always made me sad, hopeless and disappointed in the world, it took me to that nine year old boy whose innocence was snatched away between the bombings, because my generation is the victim of war and its consequences. War disgusts me.
The images coming out of Ukraine are appalling. It is a spectacle of hatred, excuses and lies that a tyrant like Vladimir Putin has spent weeks trying to deceive the world about his intentions and then confirm all the fears.
Russian tanks, fighter jets, missiles all fired at Ukrainian civilians desperately trying to flee to neighboring countries by train, car, and anything else they could find. The desperate expressions of people in the Kiev subway stations were heartbreaking. Even the dogs showed expressions of pain.
I will never accept war, barbarism and the slaughter of innocents can never be justified. It is sad that when the “international community” sees a country being torn to pieces by its stronger, more shameless and vulgar aggressor neighbor, they make no condemnation and lyrical declarations of solidarity.
The international community is disappointed with Ukraine, as it is with Venezuela or Nicaragua, just as it is with countries suffering from tyranny around the globe, condemning and more condemning without lifting a finger because it affects their economic interests. Meanwhile, the poor Ukrainians despair of seeing that they are left alone – as their president Volodymyr Zelensky rightly said – while the Russian bear eats them alive.
In this cruel world, another crisis will come and we will forget the tragedy of the Ukrainians. Putin is counting on this and knows that the “international community” will continue to issue dozens of condemning statements, but nothing will happen.
