But the man himself said he never had any problems with Suaalii.

“Everybody in the media is exaggerating. I know that’s their job,” Walsh said.

“But at the end of the day, we’re just two young guys out there playing football and wanting to contribute to our team.”

Walsh declined to comment on comments made by Maroons coach Billy Slater, who claimed after the third round that the Blues were once again hitting the back post without the ball.

But he was the first to admit that he was not happy with how the series ended.

The 22-year-old’s performances were questioned by the public following the Queensland series defeat, as the game’s most shocking defender only broke the line once in the past two games.

He bounced back brilliantly for the Brisbane club on Saturday night, tearing through defences at will, scoring a touchdown and registering two assists in what was his best game in months against Newcastle United.

“I don’t read too many reviews. I know my game,” Walsh said.

“Obviously, I’m a little disappointed with some of the things there. I just have to keep my head down and keep working hard and try my best.”

Saturday’s win over Newcastle United gave Brisbane hope of reviving its season, with the return of Adam Reynolds helping to break down a dangerous Broncos backline.

Last year’s grand finalists will likely need to win six of their final seven games to seal a top-eight spot, with important games against Canterbury, Dolphins, North Queensland and Melbourne next up.

“Of course (there are still people who believe). The origin period is over,” Walsh said.

“We have to stick together because obviously times in Origin are very tough. You’re in and out. You don’t see these boys very often.”
