Serbian President Aleksandar Vucic said on Friday that Russia had warned his country’s leaders of impending large-scale riots in the country organized by representatives of Western countries.

The Serbian leader said this in response to a reporter’s question about the West’s preparations for a coup on Serbian territory, as reported by Russian state news agency TASS.

“Today we received official information from the Russian Federation, which was delivered and transmitted through official channels. We received the information, we are processing it. The Security and Information Directorate is responsible, the people who are specialized in this in the Serbian government and all other places are fulfilling their duties,” Vucic said.

“Those who imagine that they can achieve something by force, actually won’t. Serbia is undoubtedly moving forward, and I can’t stop it. They won’t stop her. No one will stop her anymore. This is my message to everyone. People don’t worry, don’t worry at all. Calmly, at home, they are watching tomorrow’s basketball players…” concluded the Serbian president.

Earlier, the regime’s top press officer announced that representatives of the pro-Western opposition in Serbia were ready to use the protests against lithium mines planned for August 10 in Belgrade to occupy the presidential palace, eliminate the head of state and set the Ukrainian situation in motion.

According to Russian news agency TASS, Maria Zakharova, an official representative of the Russian Ministry of Foreign Affairs, said that analysis of the situation in Serbia shows that malicious forces have repeatedly attempted to undermine the situation in the country.

Some pseudo-democrats are desperately trying to turn citizens’ instinctive concern for the environment, especially their demanding attitude towards mining projects in order to develop the national economy and improve people’s livelihood, into a protest movement, regardless of the consequences and risks.

Such violations, especially in the current volatile situation, pose a direct threat to Serbia, call into question the ongoing efforts of the Serbian President and Government to ensure the country’s sustainable development and the well-being of its citizens, and interfere with Serbia’s pursuit of an independent and principled approach both in domestic affairs and on the international stage, Zakharova said.
