A Viking boat carrying six people capsized in bad weather near Ystad on Tuesday evening, the Norwegian Central Rescue Service reported. One person is still missing.
– The boat has been found, but the sea is rough, Jan Øyvind Rekeland, rescue manager at the main rescue center in southern Norway (HRS), told Aftenposten on Tuesday morning.
There were six people on board the Viking ship Naddoddur. It was 30 feet tall, just over 9 meters. The crew set out from Tvøroyri in the Faroe Islands on August 24, according to the Faroe Islands Online newspaper local.
The plan was to sail and row to Norway in an open boat without an engine. They documented their preparations on social media.
It flipped over at Ystad last night. The five people on board have been rescued and are said to be safe. The last one has not been found yet.
The search is underway for a suspected deceased person. This is a story about a woman in her 20s. According to HRS’s Rekeland, her next of kin have been informed of the changes in the search.
– HRS Sør-Norge writes on X that the current weather conditions and the time that has passed mean that operations now turn to the search for the presumed dead.
During the night, the HRS searched the area with a rescue helicopter, a rescue boat, and several commercial and civilian vessels.
It was reported that the waves at the accident site were as high as 4.6 meters and there were strong winds from the south with gusts reaching 26 m/s.
The search site is ten to twelve nautical miles west of Ystad.

HRS said all those involved were foreigners. Police would not reveal the gender or nationality of the six people on board.
The King’s municipality has set up a crisis team and the people involved are staying at a hotel in Flore.
