The band Riblja čorba has created many songs during their career, and “Look at your home, angel” is undoubtedly the signature song of Bora Đorđević’s career.

The song was written in 1985 and was included on the album Truth along with the song “Discomuscle” sung by Bora and Bregović.
Bora wrote the song when he was rebellious and ruthlessly critical of the world around him, “Look At Your Home, Angel” was declared the best song of the decade.
In the song, he addresses the angels who don’t want to see the terrible things happening in the world around them, so he invites them to do something, to change things by becoming “angels of avengeance” so that sinners can “feel in their skin what suffering means, the fear and the pain”.
The song is named after Thomas Wolfe’s novel of the same name, which tells the story of America’s years of crisis, and Djordjevic has revealed that he almost wrote the song himself.
– The song “Look at the Angel in Your House” was created in an unusual way, because he wrote it himself. She took it against my will, and the picture came by itself. It’s not the most correct rhyme, but that’s what I thought of it,” Bora said, according to Politico.
– I wrote it for a long time so that I was completely satisfied with every word. Then the song took on a life of its own. It sounded different everywhere – when the band played it, when the choir sang it, when the symphony orchestra played it, it sounded different in the destroyed Vukovar, where the audience was only children, it sounded different in Strpak in Kosovo and Metohija – Djordjevic said at the time.
The song “Pogledaj dom svoj anđele” appears on Riblja Chorbe’s 1985 album “Istina”, and it came at a specific moment. That is, Korba’s previous album “Tonight You Are Entranced by Drinking Musicians” from 1984 was not well received by the audience, and the subsequent tour was not well received by the audience.
Momčilo Bajagić Bajaga (later to form Bajaga and Instructors) and Rajko Kojić left Fish Soup. Vidoja Božinović Džindžer, Zoran Dašić Daša (later to form Legenda), Nikola Čuturilo Čutura and Vicko Milatović joined the band.
In an interview with Rok magazine, Bora Djordjevic told Pekka Popovic about the song “Look at Your Angel’s Home”.
– She means everything! But it also means great satisfaction. Without that song, there would be no more fish soup. Our general funeral began after Bajaga and Rajko left. It was also the first song practiced by the new line-up. When we recorded it, I knew what we had on our hands. There was no mistake in my assessment of its importance. When they told me in Jugoton that there were a hundred reasons why that tune could not be included, I firmly said: “Don’t even think about it!” I immediately took it under my wing and returned to PGP RTB, and they accepted it, although it was a bit tricky for them too. Even today, after all this time, I still love to sing this song. It is more than just a song for me, it marks a turning point in my writing of lyrics. I became stranger, freer, more different than with the other tracks – Bora Čorba said at the time.
Much later, Djordjević told about an incredible situation that happened during one of his performances at Štrpac, which was related to this song.
As Bora explained, after the concert he went to the dressing room to change his clothes, and at that moment a French woman came in, “a member of the occupying army,” as he put it, and she asked him to sing some more songs.
“I’ve never seen anyone laugh and cry at the same time,” she said, recalling Bora.
– You won’t even see, you won’t even understand those people – he answered her.
In the program “While Angels Sleep”, he talks about an incident that happened in Vienna. It concerns the song “Look at Your Home, Angel”.
– I was in Vienna and I was very depressed. The war, Vienna was grey and dirty. I called that street Mariahilfer Strasse Maria Hitler Strasse. I was going to buy a newspaper. Some suspicious people were checking to see if I was buying a newspaper printed in Cyrillic or Latin – Bora said, adding:
– Now, one time, I went to the station to escort someone to a train to Belgrade. There was also the Serbian Orthodox Church choir on the train. When the choir members saw me, they spontaneously started singing “Look at Your Home, Angels”. It was a completely unreal situation on an empty platform. I stood, watched, cried, and listened to them singing like angels. It was the first time in the history of the Austrian Railways that a train was delayed because when the song ended, they let the train go – Bora Djordjevic said.
