Google It has begun testing its new video creation app, Vids, designed for work environments. The app is integrated into Workspace Labs and can be used to create videos using templates and AI (IA) Gemini.

The tech giant is constantly adding new features to improve user experience and workflows in the work environment, and in this case, it expanded its Workspace service catalog with a new tool designed to generate videos using artificial intelligence.

Specifically, it is Google Vids, a tool that the company launched in April this year to help companies and users easily collaborate to create videos, just like generating presentations or documents. Now, Google has announced that it will add the Vids application to Workspace Labs to begin testing its video editing features and options.

As the tech company explained in a statement on its support page, with Google Vids, users will be able to create videos of up to 10 minutes in duration from “high-quality” templates or through Gemini AI, which builds a first draft of content faster.

If using video templates, users will be able to select a specific topic to generate a video, such as a meeting summary, project update, or tutorial. These templates include previously designed drafts consisting of different scenes, which will serve as the basis for starting to create a video, but can be customized according to the user’s needs, changing the color, scene background, or adding new scenes.

Likewise, users will be able to add their own content to these scenes, including elements such as images, videos, stickers, music or audio effects. Likewise, they will also be able to use a library of copyright-free archived content and include it in their videos.

Along the same lines, users will also have a Vids Recording Studio tool with which they can record messages in audio and video formats and then add them to videos. All this without leaving the workspace and being able to collaborate with other users in real time to create videos.

On the other hand, when using Gemini to generate a video in the Vids app, users must select the “Help me create” option so that the AI ​​generates a first draft of the video based on the text instructions.

Specifically, these instructions can refer to issues such as the type of video script outline, scenes or narrative scripts for voiceovers. Thus, after generating a draft (which also includes suggestions for images and stock music), the user can start personalizing the scene with his own audio-visual means.

Similarly, when entering a text prompt to generate a draft using Gemini, users can enter “@” and the name of a document stored in Google Workspace to include it in the draft. The AI ​​is even able to voice the generated narrative script with different types of voices. Finally, once the video is created, it can be downloaded as an MP4 file or shared via a link to play on other devices.

Nonetheless, the company is already testing the Google Vids app and its various video creation options with some users in a Workspace Labs preview before making it available to “certain Gemini plans for Google Workspace.”

However, the company noted that the video feature is being rolled out gradually, so it may not be available to all users yet.
