This Saturday evening, a house was destroyed by fire and two others were flooded in Noumea. We still do not know the cause of the fire that broke out in a social housing complex on Rue Henri-Boisserie in Vallon d’Argent. As of late evening, the disaster was still unfolding.

Saturday ended in thick smoke on Henri-Boisserie Street in Noumea. At around 5 pm, a fire broke out in a social residence below the Mathilde-Broquet school in Vallon d’Argent, 4 km away.

In the afternoon, the residents left as they went shopping. “I came back from the front of the church (hope), We can see a lot of smoke.”residents said. “I thought people had set the trash cans on fire again. As we got closer, as we parked the car, I said to my husband:There’s a fire there. He ran away. Well, it was our house that caught fire…we lost everything.” The cause of this evening’s disaster remains unknown. “The first clue was that the fire started in the living room.”

The police asked residents to stay at the scene while setting up a crisis management team. The neighborhood committee was very worried. “We were told all hotels in Noumea were full”indicating a member. “We are doing everything we can to find ways to rehouse these families.” Because if one house is completely destroyed by the fire, the other two will also suffer serious water damage. Firefighters were still on duty as the night began and deployed security systems in the area.
