The Vava’u Environmental Protection Association (VEPA) and the Tall Ship Bark Europa Ocean Cleanup, led by Laurent, joined forces today to conduct a citizen science beach cleanup at Ketahi Beach in the Vava’u Tura Village.
The event focused on collecting data on plastics and waste, which is critical to understanding and addressing local pollution issues.

Despite global concern about ocean plastics, much of the rubbish collected was items thrown into the sea by locals, highlighting the need for continued community action and awareness.
The clean-up also reflects the hard work the Guttenbell family puts in to keep Ketahi Beach clean.
VEPA, a nonprofit organization dedicated to preserving the natural beauty of Vava’u, continues to advocate for environmental protection, education and community engagement through projects that promote biodiversity, sustainability and collaboration.
