Caracas– The judges of the Supreme Court (TSJ), including its president, Chávez Carislia Rodríguez, went this Sunday to the National Electoral Council (CNE) to examine the physical records of the presidential elections, in order to continue the process of “validation” of these electoral results. Electoral bodies declare President Nicolas Maduro the winner, a victory disputed inside and outside Venezuela.
Rodríguez, together with other members of the TSJ Inocencio Figueroa and Fanny Márquez, were present, accompanied by experts and international observers, to verify the correspondence between the physical records and those received in the database of the National Total Center of the CNE, in order to continue the procedure requested by Maduro – to “certify” the results of the presidential elections.
The process is moving forward despite calls from the Organization of American States (OAS), 22 countries and the European Union (EU). The CNE publishes electoral records and impartially certifies presidential election results.
On Saturday, the majority of the opposition, which makes up the Democratic Unity Platform (PUD), mobilized inside and outside Venezuela to defend the “victory” obtained by its standard-bearer, Edmundo González Urrutia, according to which “83.5%” he claimed to have won in the elections through “minutes” collected by witnesses and members of the polling stations, documents that the government said were false.
González Urrutia was the only one of the 10 former candidates who did not attend the TSJ judicial proceedings because he believed that the tribunal would take actions in favor of Chavismo, contrary to Maduro’s guarantees of the solidity of the institution.
