Police recovered the vehicle from which the gunmen opened fire in Athurigiriya Oruwala area this morning.
Businessman Surendra Wasantha Perera and another person were killed in the shooting.
Six injured people have been taken to hospital, some in critical condition.
The shooting took place when the singer was attending the opening ceremony of an institution of Mrs. K Sujeewa.
She was also shot and was admitted to the Colombo National Hospital in a serious condition.
The police issued the following announcement on the incident.
On July 8, 2024, a shooting incident occurred on Kaduwela Road in Atugiriya area of Atugiriya Police Station, killing two men and injuring another man and three women.
The deceased were aged 55 and 38, residents of Colombo 07 and Aturugiria respectively.
An injured woman and a man are being treated at the Colombo National Hospital, while two other women are being treated at the Homagama Hospital.
Investigations so far have revealed that the suspects came in a car and used a 02-type T56 firearm to start shooting. The Aturugiria police are conducting further investigations.
