televisionThe Barbados Olympic Association (BOA) is delighted to celebrate a new chapter in the history of its National Olympic Academy (NOA) with the appointment of educator and sports administrator Janelle Denny as the Academy’s new Director.
Danny succeeds Vaneisha Cadogan, who officially retired on August 31 after five years with the company.
Danny’s extensive background in sports administration and passion for developing young talent position her to continue the tradition of excellence created by her predecessors.
Prior to joining BOA, she worked as a PE and Sports Itinerant Teacher in the Ministry of Education, Technical and Vocational Training. During her tenure, Denny also served as an Education Officer responsible for the supervision and monitoring of the implementation and monitoring of the Caribbean Secondary Education Certificate and Caribbean Advanced Level Examination syllabuses and examinations.
As an athlete, Danny has been involved in various sports at both school and club level such as tennis, basketball, athletics, netball and badminton. During her time as a PE teacher, she also coached the Barbados National Team which competed in the biennial Caribbean Teachers Union Athletics Championships on several occasions. In addition, she has demonstrated an unwavering commitment to grassroots sports development as evidenced by her ten-year tenure on the Executive Committee of the National Primary Schools Athletics Championships (NAPSAC) where she held positions such as Chairperson and Championships Director.
Danny holds a Masters degree in Physical Education and has volunteered her time and expertise to several other sports, health or sport related committees/councils including the Olympic Solidarity/Pan American Sports Organisation (OS/PASO), the Education Committee and the Awards and Special Events Committee of the Barbados Badminton Association. She served on the Executive Committee of the Barbados Badminton Association for many years and was recently appointed to the Barbados Anti-Doping Appeals Committee.
American Music Association President Sandra Osborne shared the news of Danny’s appointment and expressed the association’s gratitude for Cadogan’s leadership at the Academy.
“Vaneisha has played a key role in advancing the mission of the Academy. Over the past five years, we have seen the Academy’s programs expand to enhance the skills of athletes, coaches and administrators. The baton has now been passed to Janelle Denny, and we look forward to continued growth and success for NOA. We are optimistic that this important division within BOA will reach greater heights in the years ahead,” said Osborne.
Commenting on his appointment, Danny said: “I am honoured and excited to assume the role of Director of the National Olympic Academy. Building on the strong foundation laid by Mr. David Farmer and Ms. Cadogan, my goal will be to not only maintain the high standards that have been set, but to push the boundaries of what we can achieve together. I am eager to work with the talented and dedicated team at BOA. Together, we will strategize, innovate, and lead NOA to new levels of success while seeking to better serve the needs of National Federations, athletes and other key stakeholders.”
