The United States created a huge and historic shock in the T20 World Cup by defeating Pakistan in a thrilling super-overs victory in Texas.
Both sides scored 159 runs in the 20 innings played at the Grand Prairie Stadium and the match went into extra time, with the tournament co-hosts and first-time participants the United States scoring 14 runs in the final innings to equal Pakistan’s total.
In the Super Over, the United States batted first and then, amidst some chaotic bowling and fielding by Pakistan, put pressure on their opponents by 18 runs. Pakistan could not find an answer and eventually fell for 13 runs, with the United States winning the match by five runs.
The United States beat Canada by seven goals in their opening Group A match last Sunday and now has a great chance of reaching the Super Eight.
Pakistan performed poorly in the match and lost 26-3 in the early stages of the match due to many errors. (Sky Sports)
