The United States on Friday imposed sanctions on more than 400 companies and individuals for supporting Russia’s war in Ukraine, the State Department said.
Among the companies sanctioned are Chinese firms, which the United States believes are helping Moscow evade Western sanctions and boost its military power.
According to DASH, the sanctions include targeting Chinese companies involved in the export of machine tools and microelectronics to Russia.
The Treasury Department said it was also imposing sanctions on a transnational network involved in selling ammunition and other materiel to Russia and supporting Russian oligarchs and others in evading sanctions.
“Russia has turned its economy into a tool of the Kremlin’s military-industrial complex,” said U.S. Treasury Secretary Wally Adeyemo.
“Companies, financial institutions and governments around the world need to ensure they are not supporting Russian military supply chains,” he said.
Meanwhile, Ukrainian President Volodymyr Zelensky thanked the United States for its “powerful additional sanctions.”
He wrote on the X social network that the sanctions would further weaken Russia’s ability to “wage an aggressive war against Ukraine.”
After seizing Crimea from Ukraine in 2014, Russia launched a full-scale invasion of Ukraine in February 2022.
Since then, the United States has imposed continued economic sanctions on Moscow./relatively
