US approves massive arms shipment to Israel

“The United States is committed to Israel’s security, and assisting Israel in developing and maintaining a strong and ready self-defense capability is vital to the U.S. national interest,” the Pentagon said.

In a post on X, Israeli Defense Minister Yoav Gallant thanked U.S. officials for helping Israel maintain “military superiority in the region” and for the U.S. commitment to Israel’s security.

As Israel’s largest ally and arms supplier, the United States has delivered more than 10,000 destructive 2000-pound bombs and thousands of Hellfire missiles to Israel since 1989. Gaza war breaks out U.S. officials told Reuters in June that the number had fallen in October.

Israel’s subsequent assault on the Hamas-controlled territory killed nearly 40,000 Palestinians, according to the local health ministry, displaced nearly the entire 2.3 million population, triggered a famine crisis and led to international court charges of genocide, which Israel denies.

Washington faces growing criticism at home and abroad for its military support for Israel.
