The USS Abraham Lincoln, an aircraft carrier sent to the region amid tensions between Iran and Israel, has arrived in the Middle East, the U.S. Central Command announced.
The U.S. Central Command said in a statement on the X social media platform that “the USS Abraham Lincoln, equipped with F-35J and F/A-18 Block III fighters, has arrived in the area of responsibility of the U.S. Central Command.”
Following the killings of Hamas political leader Ismail Haniyeh and Hezbollah leader Fuad Shoukru on July 31, U.S. Defense Secretary Lloyd Austin ordered the deployment of an aircraft carrier to the Middle East amid concerns that Iran and its allies could launch an attack on Israel.
