Firefighters across the country received 45 calls Thursday afternoon and evening about trees downed by the storm.
According to the Situation Coordination Department of the Fire and Rescue Department (PAGD) of the Electricity Regulatory Commission (PVV), between 3 pm and 12 pm on Thursday, 45 reports of fallen trees on roads and two reports of fallen trees on cars were received in Kaunas and Kedainiai.
According to the PAGD PVV Situation Coordination Department, no casualties have been reported yet, although the storm is raging in parts of the country.
About 8,000 people remain without electricity.
On Thursday afternoon, after the storm failed to reach many parts of Lithuania, 7,463 households in the country were without electricity, according to the Energy Distribution Operator (ESO).
However, ESO representative Rasa Juodkienė said they are prepared for the storm and are working to eliminate power outages as quickly as possible.
“At the moment, more troops are working where they are needed. Elsewhere, we contact new personnel and teams depending on the situation”, says R. Juodkienė.
She also noted that most of the power outages on Thursday occurred in the Siauliai, Kaunas and Panevėžys regions.
According to the Hydrometeorological Bureau, short-term heavy rains accompanied by thunderstorms are expected in the eastern region, with maximum gusts reaching 21-26m/s.
According to forecasters, in the past few hours heavy rains washed away Jurbarkas Tauragė, Kybartas, Dotnuvas, Kazlų Rūdas and Šeduvas.
