(iWitness News) Due to damage to the transmission grid during Hurricane Beryl’s July 1st strike, power supply to Union Island may not be restored before the end of the year.
Power is expected to be restored on Canouan and Mero islands within six weeks to two months.
Prime Minister Ralph Gonsalves told the iWitness news agency on Tuesday that these were the timelines given to him by the state-owned power company VINLEC.
Damage caused by the hurricane included broken utility poles and downed power lines.
“They told me that it is unlikely that the power will be restored in Union City before the end of the year, but the power plants in Union City, although damaged, were not as bad as in Union City,” the prime minister told iWitness News in Union City on Tuesday.
