Police chief Mizanur Rahman said: “The safest place in the world for a child is in his father’s arms. But Tuhin died in his father’s arms. Later, multiple parts of his body were amputated. Afterwards, two knives were inserted into his stomach and he was hung from a tree. He said his brother Nasir Mia and nephew Shahriar were with Abdul Bashir.
Earlier in the afternoon, police remanded Tuhin’s father Abdul Bachir (40), uncle Abdul Mushabir (45) and neighbour Jamser Ali (50) to three days’ custody. Meanwhile, Tuhin’s other uncle Nasir Uddin (34) and cousin Shahriar (17) provided confession statements to the court. The five have been in police custody since Monday afternoon.
Abdul Bashir, Abdul Mushabbir and Jamser Ali were produced before the Sunamganj High Judicial Magistrate Court in the afternoon in a case filed by police officer Tuhin’s mother Monira Begum and were each asked to be remanded for five days. Court judge Shyam Kant Sinha granted remand for three days each. Meanwhile, Nasir Mia and Shahriar, uncles of Sunamganj Judicial Magistrate Md. Tuhin, gave their confession statements in the court of Khalid Mia.
The home of Tuhin Mia, the victim of the brutal murder, was located in Kejara village in Rajanagar Union, Sunanganjedila Upazila. The murder took place on Sunday night. On Monday, the police found the body of the child Tuhin. Tuhin’s bloody frozen body was hanging on a tree branch. A rope was tied around his neck. Two long knives were inserted into his stomach. The brutality did not end here, as both his ears were also cut off.
Tuhin’s mother Monira Begum filed a murder case against 10 to 12 unidentified persons at Dirai police station on Monday night. So far, the police have arrested five persons in the case.
Meanwhile, Tuhin’s father, Abdul Bashir, told reporters on Monday afternoon that he had three sons and a daughter. Among them, Tuhin was the second. They gave birth to a daughter 15 days ago. On Sunday night, they went to bed with the children after dinner. Around 2:30 a.m., one of his nieces woke him up and said that the door of their house was open. Then everyone woke up and found that Tuhin was gone. Subsequently, the neighbors were also called. The search began. At one point, they found Tuhin’s body hanging on a branch on the road near the house.
Inspector General of Police Mizanur Rahman told Prothom Alo: “We are aware of the matter. We are seriously investigating the matter. All those who were in front of it, behind it, will be caught. No one will be exempted. The police will soon file a report in court regarding the case.”
