Kabul (Pajhwok): Afghanistan’s Ministry for Promotion of Virtue and Prevention of Vice (MPVPV) has asked the United Nations Assistance Mission in Afghanistan (UNAMA) to refrain from making statements regarding implementation of Islamic laws to avoid hurting the sentiments of Muslims.

In its latest report, the UN Military Operations Commission took issue with some of the activities of the MPVPV and linked them to violations of human rights and freedoms.

UNAMA Report It stated that since its establishment, the activities of the de facto MPVPV have had a negative impact on the enjoyment of human rights and fundamental freedoms by the Afghan people in all aspects of life, with a discriminatory and disproportionate impact on women.

Palestinian Authority spokesman Mawlavi Abdul Ghafar Farooq, in an audio recording, refuted the UNAMA report and said the objections raised against the ministry’s functioning were baseless and far from the truth.

He said that after the formation of the IEA government, the rights of all citizens, both men and women, were guaranteed.

Maulavi Farooq said Afghanistan is a Muslim society and it is the government’s responsibility to implement these laws.

“We hope that UNAMA will not make statements that inflame Muslim sentiments regarding the implementation of Islamic law.”

Earlier, in response to the report, the IEA chief spokesperson said that UNAMA’s criticism of Afghanistan’s MPVPV procedures and hearing of complaints was unfounded.
