The death toll from the collapse of a large garbage dump in Uganda’s capital Kampala has risen to 23, as the search for survivors continues.
“According to the latest data, 23 people have died,” a city government spokesman said.
Landslides caused by heavy rain buried houses, people and livestock.
Kampala Mayor Erijas Lukwago said the 14-hectare Kitezi landfill was already overcrowded.
In previous reports, a total of 19 people died, including five children.
