Mike Tyson said he is in good health and ready for his Nov. 15 fight with Jake Paul as the two boxers held a joint press conference in New York on Sunday.
The fight was originally scheduled for July 20, but was postponed because the 58-year-old former heavyweight champion Tyson had to rest for some time due to an ulcer.
“Iron Mike” has a 50-6 record, including 44 knockouts, and is one of the most feared heavyweight boxers in history, but has not fought professionally since 2005.
When asked why he returned to boxing after such a long retirement, Tyson’s answer was clear: “Because I can. Who else can do it but me? We have a YouTuber fighting the greatest boxer of all time.”
“He could have gone into the ring with someone who had the same intentions, but that wasn’t the case.
“Once I catch this guy, it’s all over, he’s going to run away. He’s going to run away like a thief.”
Paul was booed and jeered by the crowd and he claimed he was going to put Tyson to sleep.
“I’m here to make $40 million and beat a legend,” Paul said.
He said: “I love Mike and respect him, but we were no longer friends until November 15th.”
When asked if he was scared to compete against Paul, Tyson sarcastically replied: “I am scared.”
Paul, a 27-year-old YouTuber-turned-boxer, is 31 years younger and has a boxing record of 10 wins and 1 loss.
The game, which will be streamed globally on Netflix, will take place at the 80,000-seat AT&T Stadium in Arlington, Texas, home of the Dallas Cowboys.
