kick off This Thursday, the Tū’aro Mā’ohi competition took place at Paofai Gardens in Papeete, with many political figures in attendance.
This year’s event is notable for its international presence, with athletes from the Polynesian Triangle, especially New Zealand, Hawaii, Rapa Nui, Samoa, California and the Cook Islands. As with previous events open to the public, this event will help to promote the cultural and tourism profile of the Pacific, our culture, Tahiti and its islands.
Tu’aro Mā’ohi will also feature cultural activities, games and traditional entertainment to provide plenty of entertainment for the public.
Stalls of artisans, tattoo artists, traditional masseurs, sales and exhibitions of local products, and sculptors will also be present. The “Heiva Va’a Taie” is also on the program this year. This day combines sports and cultural aspects, with an introduction to ancestral sailing, as well as traditional sailing workshops.
Remember, the Tū’aro Mā’ohi events will continue on July 13-14, 2024. In this event, the fruit handling competition will be followed by javelin throwing, stone lifting, copra, coconut tree climbing, taputo Ma’ohi and Rore, which will be held at: Te Fare Iamanaha: Museum of Tahiti and the Islands.
