TTI won first place in the New Zealand Pacific Brass Band Competition

The Tupou Tertiary Institute (TTI) School of Music achieved significant success at the 2024 New Zealand National Brass Band Championships, taking first place in both the Ensemble B competition and Open Ensemble B Part 2.

On the third day of the competition, the band participated in the street march event, adding fun to the competition. Although they were not part of the participating teams, they were led by band members and dressed in ancient Tonga traditional costumes, which added a lot of color to the competition.

According to a post on social media by TTI director Rev. Dr. Ungatea Kata, the talent and intelligence of the band was on full display in their eventual first place finish despite using borrowed instruments.

To celebrate their success and support their musical journey, TTI will host a concert on Friday, July 19 at the Lesieli Tonga Hall in Tuingapapai, Mangere, New Zealand, starting at 7:30pm. The concert will feature the TTI Conservatory of Music Orchestra and traditional Tongan cultural performances. Funds raised will be used to purchase musical instruments for the students to take back to Tonga.
