Trump’s trial; he may attend press conference today

Former US President Donald Trump is expected to speak at a press conference for the first time since being found guilty by a court.

A New York court yesterday found former US President Donald Trump guilty in a criminal case.

The jury has already come out on that front, with about six months left before the U.S. presidential election, when Trump is expected to be formally announced as the party’s nominee at the Republican National Convention in July.

In response to the court’s decision, a White House spokesman said he supported the rule of law.

A jury found Trump guilty of all 34 counts in the case of paying “hush money” to porn stars.

This is the first time in the nearly 200-year history of the United States that a current or former president has been found guilty in a criminal case. After two days and more than eleven hours of deliberation, the jury in the Manhattan Court in New York announced the verdict on Thursday, May 30.

One of the allegations against Trump is that he paid his then-lawyer $130,000 before the 2016 U.S. presidential election for hush money payments he made to porn film star Stormy Daniels.

Daniels claims Trump had sex with her a decade ago.

Trump faces the risk of going to jail after the jury makes its verdict; but the final decision on whether Trump will be sentenced to jail will be announced on July 11.

Trump was present when the jury announced its verdict.

After leaving the court, he said he had done nothing wrong and was “very innocent.” Trump added that it was a “fraudulent and shameful” trial.

Trump said the real decision will be made by the people on November 5. The United States will hold a presidential election on November 5 this year.

Although the jury found Donald Trump guilty, he is not barred from running in the election and is expected to be formally nominated at the Republican National Convention in July.

Previously, Donald Trump has been charged in three criminal cases; but until now he has not been convicted.

Trump said his legal team would soon appeal the decision.

Polls show the court’s decision will pose an electoral risk to Donald Trump; but some Republican observers believe the ruling will further boost Trump’s approval ratings.
