This sets a new tone for the race for the White House after US President Joe Biden dropped out of the race and was replaced by Vice President Kamala Harris. After Kamala’s candidacy, people noticed an increase in interest in Democratic candidates and polls showed a more promising position for the Democratic Party. The number of volunteers also increased with the increase in commitments.
When Biden was still a candidate, Trump had agreed to debate him on ABC on September 10. However, Trump appeared to change his mind about the debate and posted an announcement on his social network Truth Social that the debate will be held on September 4 in troubled Pennsylvania with an audience.
Trump said the request was due to a conflict of interest because of his defamation lawsuit against ABC TV host George Stephanopoulos, who claimed Trump was convicted of rape in the case of Jean Carroll. Earlier this year, Trump was ordered to pay Carroll $83 million for making hurtful comments about her. That was after he was found guilty of sexually assaulting Carroll.
Trump, who is also embroiled in the conflict-of-interest lawsuit, said the ABC debate would end on its own now that Biden has dropped out of the race.
Harris’ team has made it clear that it disagrees with Trump’s proposed changes and wants to stick to the previous plan.
“Trump is freaking out, trying to back out of a debate he had previously agreed to participate in, and running straight to Fox News in the hopes that they will get him off the hook,” Harris campaign spokesman Michael Tyler told NBC News.
“Mr Anytime, Anywhere should have no problem showing up, unless he’s too scared to show up at No. 10.”
Harris himself took the same stance in X.
“It’s interesting to see how ‘anytime, anywhere’ has become ‘set time, set safe place,’ ” Harris wrote.
Interestingly, “any time, any place” became “one specific time, one specific safe space.”

Today, Trump responded on his social media, saying that Harris herself was too scared to have a “real debate.”
“I will see Harris on September 4th, otherwise I will not see her.”
