Trump sentencing live updates: Donald Trump found guilty of all 34 counts in hush money trial

Donald Trump’s attorney Todd Branch denounced the trial as unfair and said they will “vigorously fight” it through a motion to be filed in a few weeks, CNN reported.

He told the media: “There was too much publicity given to witnesses and other relevant persons before the trial. Our judicial system should not be one where everyone who walks into the courtroom knows about the case.”

He said if their fight is unsuccessful, the legal team will appeal after the verdict is announced in July.

Mr Branch said: “Everyone on the jury knows from The Apprentice that Donald Trump is the president, the candidate, so I don’t think this is a fair venue to try President Trump.”

“The law provides that any person has the right to a fair trial before a jury of their peers, and we simply believe that because of the circumstances leading up to this trial, it would have been difficult for the jury to evaluate the evidence without considering the facts before them,” Mr Branch said.

Stormy Daniels is “thrilled” that Donald Trump was found guilty of all 34 counts in his criminal hush money trial in New York, her lawyer and husband both told CNN on Thursday.

Ms Daniels played a central role in the case – hush money payments to her from Mr Trump’s former lawyer Michael Cohen were key evidence in convicting the former president.

Donald Trump’s wife, Melania Trump, and their son, Barron Trump, are currently in New York, a source familiar with the matter told CNN.

It was not clear when they arrived, but both were in the city when Trump was found guilty in court on Thursday.

However, the former first lady did not attend the fundraising dinner with Trump at his private residence in New York last night.

“I have just been found guilty in a rigged witch hunt trial: I did nothing wrong,” the email read.

“They searched my home, arrested me, took my picture, and now they’ve just convicted me! But at this moment in history, with your support, we will take back the White House and make America great again.”

The former first daughter, who also served as a special adviser to Trump during his time in office, posted a heartfelt message on her Instagram shortly after her father was convicted in New York on Thursday.

Following Donald Trump’s historic conviction, the Biden-Harris campaign released a statement saying the convicted former president must now be defeated “at the ballot box.”

“Today in New York, we saw that no one is above the law,” correspondent Michael Taylor said in a statement.

“Donald Trump has long mistakenly believed that he would face no consequences for breaking the law for personal gain. But today’s ruling does not change the simple reality facing the American people.

“There is only one way to keep Donald Trump from the White House: at the ballot box.

“Convicted or not, Trump will be the Republican presidential nominee. The threat Trump poses to our democracy has never been greater. He is waging an increasingly frenzied campaign of revenge and punishment, vowing to become a dictator ‘on day one,’ and calling for the ‘termination’ of our Constitution so he can regain and keep power.

“A second Trump term would mean chaos, deny Americans their freedoms and incite political violence — and the American people will reject it this November.”

Donald Trump, convicted of falsifying business records and charged with corruptly influencing the 2016 presidential election, the first conviction in U.S. presidential history, will run for president again as a felon and fraudster.

The former president, who refuses to defend himself, could be sentenced to up to four years in prison and face thousands of dollars in fines.
