Two years ago, the Florida Supreme Court rolled back a woman’s right to an abortion after state Republicans passed one of the strictest abortion laws in the country, banning abortion after six weeks of pregnancy. Trump appointed three of the six Supreme Court justices who voted to overturn the right-wing ruling and bragged about it.
Florida voters will vote on an amendment to the state constitution that would legalize a woman’s right to an abortion and repeal the ban at the same time as presidential and congressional elections in November.
Trump, a Florida resident, has been somewhat unclear about his stance on the proposal after appearing to say yesterday that he would vote for it, angering supporters within his ranks of staunch anti-abortionists.
Trump said in an interview with Fox News Channel today that he thinks Florida’s six-week ban goes too far. In return, he mentioned that he thinks the Democrats are too bigoted and continue to lie that they want to allow “abortion” even after the child is born.
“For that reason, I will be voting against it,” Trump said.
The choice is clear
Democratic presidential candidate Kamala Harris said in a statement that Trump has seen his stance on abortion as “morning light” and indicated he intends to support an extreme ban. Next, he and Republicans plan to restrict access to birth control and fertility treatments. The choice in the election will be clear.
“I believe women can make their own decisions about their health, and I believe the government should never come between a woman and her doctor,” Harris said.
