The Department of Public Works today informed all truck drivers that from now on, they must use the main roads and are not allowed to use the railway embankment corridor.
The ministry said in a statement that it has been working relentlessly to repair bridges along the railway embankment due to damage caused by heavy trucks.
“The situation has now become unbearable as the continued use of these bridges by heavy trucks will not only damage infrastructure but also adversely affect the lives of residents and other road users,” the ministry said.
Minivans, buses and cars are exempt from this notification.
