Traffic violations lead to huge fines for SKN

ST. KITTS AND NEVIS (WINN) — On August 7, 2024, the Charleston District Court presided by Judge Reynold Benjamin heard several traffic violation cases and issued convictions and fines.

Joseph Richards of Bodenpastour was fined $500 for careless driving. He must pay the fine within a month or face 14 days in jail.

Morgan Davis of Cotton Ground faces multiple charges. He was fined $500 for careless driving, which must be paid immediately or he will be sentenced to one month in jail. He was also fined $1,000 and sentenced to two months in jail for driving without insurance, and fined $750 and sentenced to one month in jail for driving without a valid licence.

Carney Skeeter II of Jessup was fined $700 for allowing another person to drive without insurance. If not paid immediately, he will be sentenced to 21 days in jail.

Terrone Nisbett, also of Jessup, was fined $750 for changing a license plate number, $500 for driving without a valid license and $1,000 for driving without insurance. All fines are payable immediately and default jail terms are one month, one month and two months, respectively.

On August 8, 2024, five more people were convicted in the Basseterre District Court under the direction of Judge Sherry-Ann Liburd-Charles.

Joseph Irwin of East Street, Newtown, was fined $1,000 for careless driving. Failure to pay the fine will result in 14 days in jail.

Jamarvis Rawlings of Otley Village faces multiple convictions and was fined $1,500 for careless driving, $750 for driving without a valid driver’s license and $750 for driving without insurance. If he does not pay the fines, he will be sentenced to two months in jail.

Dwight Huggins, of New Road, was fined $1,500 for negligent driving and sentenced to 14 days in jail if he does not pay the fine.

Shevene Boston, of Taylor Village, was fined $1,000 and sentenced to 14 days in jail for negligent driving.

Daricer Maynard France of Upper Monkey Mountain was fined $750 and sentenced to 14 days in jail for negligent driving.

In addition to these cases, 12 ticket cases were withdrawn after proof of payment was provided and 12 accident cases were adjourned.

Drivers are urged to exercise increased caution as the region prepares for severe weather. Reducing speed, maintaining a large following distance and ensuring tires and brakes are in good condition are all necessary measures to minimize the risk of accidents and increase road safety during severe weather.
