Afghan athlete Zakia Khodadadi carried the Olympic torch through the streets of Paris on Friday.
Ms Kodadadi wrote on X (formerly Twitter) that as a girl and refugee from Afghanistan she had the honour of carrying the Olympic torch.
He added that the Olympic torch is a symbol of unity, peace, freedom and equality throughout the world.
Zakia Kodadadi beat her Russian opponent to win the gold medal at the Paralympic Games in Bulgaria last year, qualifying for the 2024 Paris Paralympic Games.
After the fall of the republic and the Taliban’s re-establishment of control over Afghanistan, he moved to France.
The 2024 Summer Paralympics are expected to open in Paris in late August.
Before that, the Paris Summer Olympics will officially open today.
Among the athletes participating in the Olympics are six Afghans, including three girls.
The Taliban government says it does not recognize female athletes.
One of the girls, Yulduz Hashemi, told RFE/RL that she wanted to represent the 20 million Afghan women who she said were denied basic rights by participating in the Summer Olympics in Paris.
