The Toronto Raptors have added Bruno Fernando to their roster, according to Sportsnet. After he was waived by the Hawks, the Canadiens acquired the center and signed him to a non-guaranteed contract that will allow him to compete for a spot on the final roster.
Toronto currently has 16 players on the roster, so they will have to cut at least one player before the regular season begins. Fernando will try to be one of the 15 players selected during the preseason, which, if it happens, presumably means at least part of his salary will be guaranteed.
The center averaged 6.3 points and 4.3 rebounds in 15 minutes per game and became a key part of the Hawks’ rotation. However, Georgia decided not to continue counting on him, making him a free agent and giving the Raptors the opportunity to add him to their roster.

Bruno Fernando just had his best season of his five-year NBA career. He averaged 6.3 points, 4.3 rebounds and 1.0 assists in 45 games with the Atlanta Hawks, shooting 58.3%. Last Sunday, the Toronto Raptors officially announced that they had signed Fernando to a contract.
Jay Rosales of That’s A Rap Podcast added more details: “The Raptors have officially announced the signing of Bruno Fernando. He will attend training camp along with Quincy Guerrier and Jamison Battle in an effort to secure the 15th roster spot.”
If Fernando is selected, the Raptors will have a new talent as they try to get back into the NBA playoffs. He is only 25 years old, still young, and he can continue to improve in the next few seasons.
Fernando was the 34th overall pick in the 2019 NBA Draft. He is from Maryland and was selected by the Atlanta Hawks. In addition to the Hawks, he has also played for the Boston Celtics and Houston Rockets. His career averages are 4.0 points and 3.3 rebounds per game, and he shot 54.4% from the field in 203 regular season games.
