Tonga will see cool night temperatures from August 5 to 13, 2024, with a high pressure system moving to the southwest bringing moderate to strong southeasterly winds to the entire region. This trend is expected to continue for the rest of the week, according to the Tonga Meteorological Service.

During this period, several areas in Tonga recorded significantly low temperatures, with Hango in Ewa Province experiencing the coldest night on August 13, with the temperature dropping to 11.3°C. This is the lowest temperature recorded in Tonga so far in 2024. Temperatures also dropped in Nuku’alofa and Fua’amotu, with minimum temperatures reaching 13.9°C and 13.7°C respectively.

In comparison, the lowest temperature recorded in 2023 was 9.8°C on July 30. Tonga’s all-time low temperature record remains 8.7°C, recorded in September 1994 at Fua’amotu.

As this weather pattern is set to persist, residents are advised to prepare for continued cold nights and stay informed with regular updates.
