The Tonga Trade Expo 2024 kicked off at the Queen Salote Memorial in Nuku’alofa on 27 August 2024, marking a vibrant start to the event that is expected to highlight local businesses and boost economic growth in the region. The opening ceremony was attended by leaders and delegations from the Pacific Islands Leaders Forum Meeting (PILFM), laying the foundation for a week of trade and cultural exchanges.
The Minister of Trade and Economic Development of Tonga, His Excellency Viliami Usik Ratu, stressed the importance of trade in strengthening economic prosperity and resilience in the Pacific region. “Events such as today’s trade expo highlight the critical role trade plays in boosting economic prosperity and resilience across our blue Pacific continent,” said Ratu, who spoke of the expo’s significance in promoting local industries and strengthening regional connections.
The Tonga Trade Fair will run until August 30, providing a platform for local businesses to showcase their products and services while networking with potential partners and customers. The fair is not only a trade event, but also an opportunity for the community to support and promote local businesses.
The ministry encourages attendees and visitors to explore the various stalls, participate in activities, and enjoy cultural performances throughout the fair.
