Tonga Police, in partnership with the Australian Federal Police (AFP) through the Tonga-Australia Policing Partnership (TAPP) and Pacific Island Cyber ​​Security, have successfully completed a nine-day training program focused on combating online abuse and strengthening digital security across the Kingdom. The program works to strengthen cybersecurity and protect the Tongan community from cyber threats.

The program involved 12 Tongan police officers and was led by CSP Sergeant Nigel Wood and New Zealand Police member Enoka Feterika, who provided comprehensive training. Trainers from Cyber ​​Safety Pasifika guided participants through 10 modules covering a wide range of topics including fundamentals, practical skills, legal considerations, cyber intelligence and emerging trends in cyber security.

Police Commissioner Shane McLennan attended the graduation ceremony along with the Tonga Police District Commander, officers and trainees. Commissioner McLennan commended Pacific Island Cyber ​​Security for its contribution and the support of the Tonga-Australia Policing Partnership, “This training marks an important step towards creating a safer cyber environment for our communities.”

The Tonga Police Cyber ​​Crime Unit has been equipped with newly renovated offices and analytical laboratories, further enhancing their ability to respond to cyber threats. With these advancements, the Tonga Police aims to equip the local community with the skills and knowledge needed to effectively respond to cyber challenges.
