Today, Dr. Dan Sinclair and his team of cave experts from Victoria University of Wellington, New Zealand, teamed up with Tonga Geological Services to revisit the Maui Caves in Ewa.
The joint expedition aims to take detailed photographs and conduct further assessments of the cave’s stalagmites and stalactites.
These stunning features, including stalagmites rising from the cave floor and stalactites hanging from the ceiling, were formed by the slow dripping of mineral-rich water over time.

These natural features showcase the incredible geological processes that have shaped Tonga’s landscape.
The expedition marks an important step in the ongoing effort to record and preserve Tonga’s geological sites, ensuring they remain a source of wonder and scientific study for years to come.
