ECOWAS follows with concern the evolution of the security situation in Mali and strongly condemns the recent attacks against members of the Malian Defence and Security Forces, Tinzaouatine, in the north of the country, which have resulted in numerous victims among the Malian army.
The ECOWAS Commission wishes to express its sincere condolences to the Government and people of the Republic of Mali and to the families of the victims.
The ECOWAS Commission also takes this opportunity to express its strong dissatisfaction and condemnation of any foreign interference in the region that could pose a threat to peace and security in West Africa, as well as any attempt to lead the region into the current geopolitical conflict.
In conclusion, ECOWAS reiterates its strong commitment and continued support for any initiative aimed at promoting peace, security and stability in the subregion.
