Tegucigalpa – Three Colombians arrested in the Honduran Caribbean with 500 kilograms of cocaine on board have been ordered by a court to go to prison on charges of aggravated drug trafficking, the Public Ministry (Prosecutor’s Office) reported on Wednesday.
The Colombian was ordered to “judicial detention” during a hearing at the Court of First Instance for Organized Crime on the defendant’s statements, the Public Ministry (MP) said in a press release.
The investigative entity noted that the detained Colombians were identified as Yersi Quiñones, Oscar Eduardo Lisarda and Robinson Gomez, all of whom were charged with “aggravated drug trafficking endangering public health.”
The Honduran court set a July 19 first hearing for the detainees, according to a statement from Honduran lawmakers, which also highlighted the swearing-in of experts in “extraction data and toxicology” to continue collecting more information in order to prosecute state institutions for the conviction of the detained Colombians.
Honduran authorities seized a boat on Monday carrying 500 kilograms of cocaine divided into 20 packages worth more than 150 million lempiras (more than $6 million), according to a report from the Honduran Armed Forces.
The official information added that the boat, which has two engines, was intercepted by the Honduran Navy in the Rosalinda fishing coast area, east of the Caribbean Sea.
According to official data, as of 2024, Honduras has seized more than 7,000 kilograms of cocaine.
