This year’s national school digital competency assessment also failed to proceed smoothly. In addition to the initial failure of the IT system for filling in the papers, a load attack also occurred during the assessment – according to the newspaper sent to us by the Education Office (OH).

Indeed, according to OH, the latter did not represent sabotage, and they claimed that their colleagues dealt with the incident promptly.

Meanwhile, the Ohio president reported the case to the police.

This year’s measurement period is from March 4 to June 3 and from June 4 to 11. All students from all grades participate. The areas of competence measurement include reading comprehension, mathematics, science, foreign and target languages, and grades 5-11. In the grades, students also have to solve tasks related to history and digital culture on an experimental basis.

When asked by this newspaper, OH denied that the system could “crash” at any time, although they admitted that the software did experience a brief unexpected slowdown on the first day, which their colleagues also dealt with, and said that according to them, the measurement has continued without interruption since then. They added that local school problems could also arise at any time, but in their view, it is the task of the schools and their managers to eliminate them, and for this purpose they have prepared a guide for each institution.

In 2022, the competency test was conducted digitally for the first time, but the system was still not functioning properly in some places. As Népszava writes based on OH data – 3,600 tenth graders have to repeat. We want to know if the test needs to be rewritten after last year’s and this year’s measurements, but we have received information from OH that the office does not monitor the number of repetitions, because one of the advantages of digital measurement is that the measurement can be taken at any time during the period.

The results of the 2023 measurement have not yet been published, but according to OH, the publication is already in preparation. Unlike in the past, the results of indicators at national and local levels will be available on the data visualization interface of the digital national capacity assessment, instead of downloading separate institutional and local reports.

Medical students do not have to retake exams

Medical students at Semmelweis University and the University of Debrecen who took their final exams online received their scores, meaning they did not have to repeat the paper exams after the system used to complete them froze during the state exam period on Tuesday. If anyone does not accept their scores, they will have the opportunity to take the paper exam again, according to information published on the website of the National Commission for Physician-Pharmacist Final Exams on Thursday. The announcement also revealed that despite the disruption, most students passed the exams with scores of 4 and 5.

Semmelweis University announced in a statement on Wednesday that an IT problem occurred during the online exam, resulting in data loss: the system saved an average of 156 answers out of 180 questions. The announcement did not reveal the specific cause of the problem, but the final exam committee did not rule out the possibility of a hacker attack.
