Crossing the Portuguese border, after three stages on Portuguese roads, will be the first quality test of the 79th Vuelta for the candidates for the red jersey in Madrid on September 8th.

Fernando Escartín, technical director of the Vuelta, explained that it was a “complex stage from the start, with second-class climbs and first-class passes, including Pionar, in the first 50 km”, about to face the final climb of Pico Villuercas, with 3 km of concrete and a gradient of 15-16%.
