Sean Evans, a professional roller coaster tester and YouTube content creator, has revealed that despite his fear of heights, he has made hundreds of thousands of dollars through his daring lifestyle.
“I was always scared… but when the roller coaster went down the first slope, the fear disappeared at that moment””, the man explained, citing New York Post.
Despite having ridden more than 150 roller coasters, Evans is still afraid of heights. The 33-year-old said his fear began when he first rode the Corkscrew roller coaster at Alton Towers Resort on a school trip, and he avoided amusement parks for years as a result.
However, during the pandemic, he found himself watching a lot of theme park videos, which piqued his interest in roller coasters.
“During the (pandemic) lockdown, all I knew was the inside of our house, so I looked at people travelling abroad, they went to theme parks and attractions, and I realised the escape that comes with theme parks.”Sean said.
Profitable Hobby
The man created a YouTube channel called “Lift Hills and Thrills” which focuses on his adventures exploring UK theme parks. The channel has more than 20,000 subscribers.
Evans began his new thrill-seeking journey, which required him to try different amusement park rides, such as roller coasters, despite his health issues. The man has since visited around 50 theme parks, ridden around 130 roller coasters, and set a park record by riding Alton Towers Nemesis 64 times in six hours. He even rode the tallest roller coaster in Europe, the 112-meter-tall Red Force at PortAventura World in Spain.
One of his most viewed videos was of his Velocity competition at the Flamingo Land Resort in England, which earned him about $4,000.
Before going to the theme park, he thoroughly researched the attractions, comparing heights and curves and preparing himself for what was to come. Despite his research and experience with roller coasters, fear overwhelmed him when the ride began.
