The world’s first human head transplant has been performed in China. Although the main part of the body was “transplanted” onto a corpse, scientists say it is a breakthrough in the field of transplantation and similar operations could soon be performed on living people.

The world's first human head transplant was performed in China.

The operation lasted 18 hours and was performed by a team of doctors from Harbin University.

Doctors try to connect the spine, nerves and blood vessels.

Italian surgeon Sergio Canavero, who has been following the process, said the next step would be to perform “complete transplants from brain-dead donors”.

Let’s remember that the same group of doctors performed the world’s first monkey head transplant in January 2016. Previously, a similar operation was performed on mice with success.
