The department said in a press release that Poland is a strong ally of the United States and the agreement will further strengthen NATO’s eastern flank.
The country is in the midst of a massive military modernization program, with plans to purchase F-35 fighter jets, Patriot air defense systems and Abrams tanks.
This year, Warsaw allocated 4% of its gross domestic product (GDP) for defense – the highest among all NATO members.
Poland is home to thousands of U.S. and allied forces, including the headquarters of the U.S. Army’s Fifth Corps in Poznan.
