Dozens of social media users have reported scams in recent days where they have lost hundreds of shekels watching pirated content. According to reports, administrators of social media groups offered members to buy leaked episodes of popular TV series for a fee and then disappeared.
The Zira organization has been working to reduce pirated viewing on the Internet for more than a decade and has actively worked to shut down various groups and channels on social networks that publish and share pirated content. The organization has even been conducting intensive public and secret investigations and even filing legal cases against channel managers and operators and similar groups, with Zira’s CEO Ido Natan noting that a large part of fraud victims are children and teenagers who are unaware of the illegal activities and the dangers they involve.
“In recent months, we have been conducting public and covert investigations into the spread of pirated content on social networks, and have even filed dozens of legal cases against parties operating pirated services,” Natan noted. “To our surprise, we found that a large part of the members of various groups are teenagers or even children, who are unaware that this is an illegal activity. Sometimes, they even become victims of financial fraud and criminal offenses due to their consumption. We urge parents to be careful when pirated content appears on the Internet!”
