President Volodymyr Zelensky said on Wednesday the situation for Ukrainian troops near the town of Pokrovsk was “extremely difficult” as Russian forces moved closer to this key logistical hub in eastern Ukraine.

“At present, the recovery capacity and ability to destroy the occupiers of each of our units are very high. I want to thank every soldier and every commander who sticks to his post,” he continued.
Despite a surprise offensive launched by Kiev on August 6 in Russia’s Kursk region, Russia has been making steady progress in Ukraine’s Donetsk region, which remains the epicenter of fighting and intends to completely conquer the region.
She claimed on Tuesday that she had captured a new Ukrainian village of Orlivka near Pokrovsk, facing Kiev’s numerically inferior and less well-armed forces.
On Wednesday, however, President Zelensky assured that the Russian offensive could ease pressure in the east of the country. “It must be understood that all the tension we transfer to Russia means that it cannot put more pressure on our Donetsk region,” he said.
He also claimed that Ukrainian troops continued to “expand the territory under (their) control” in the Kursk region and captured new prisoners during the day.
“It will help us bring home many of those imprisoned in Russia,” he said, referring to regular prisoner swaps between the two warring parties.
