The High Commission announced in its weekly update that the sale of alcohol will be reauthorized from Monday, August 19, under certain conditions. The curfew is extended until August 26.

Category 3 and 5 drinking venues will be able to resume their activities. “From Monday, August 19, 2024 to Sunday, September 8, 2024”said a press release. The relaxation concerns wine merchants and supermarkets.
In fact, the purchase of alcohol will still be subject to certain standard restrictions. It will only be available from 9am to 5pm from Monday to Thursday and from 9am to 12pm on Friday. Sales will still be prohibited on weekends.
Customers must also limit their consumption to 2 litres if the alcohol content does not exceed 22°, and 1 litre if the alcohol content is higher. Finally, delivery sales remain prohibited. Presentation of an ID document remains valid.
“These measures have been developed in consultation with wine merchants and will strengthen controls.”further underscoring the High Commission’s claims, but the High Commission did not specify what those controls were. “Any abuse will inevitably lead to new adjustments in administrative police measures”he warned.
Additionally, a nationwide 10pm to 5am curfew continues until Monday, August 26, and prohibits the carrying, transportation and use of firearms without a legitimate reason.
“The retail sale and transportation of fuel, flammable or corrosive products in any transportable container remains prohibited until Monday, August 26”completed the press release, clarifying that the regulations do not apply to farmers, fishermen, artisans and license holders.
