One of writer Azra Cohen’s followers was criticized on social media for his comments about Palestinians: “People who don’t protect or feed babies don’t deserve life.”
Everest Publications, which publishes Azra Kohen’s books, responded first, with its Instagram account closed for comment, saying on its social media account: “We condemn the genocide against the Palestinian people. This situation, which is a harm to the entire Palestinian people, especially children and women, is a crime against humanity, and all our writers are not guilty in the slightest. Anyone who legitimizes or praises this crime against humanity cannot be a member of our publishing group.”
‘We went our separate ways’
A statement released by Everest Press said they publicly condemned the “genocide” against the Palestinian people.
“To do otherwise would legitimize unscrupulous and ruthless orders,” the statement said.
“Despite our clear statements and stance, we do not believe that those who are inciting people against us and imposing the message they want us to say are sincere. No one can question the sincerity of Everest Publishing on this sensitive issue. As of yesterday, we will be able to take legal action against those who are trying to discredit our publishing house, target us and create obstacles by spamming our social media accounts.” The necessary procedures have been initiated.
Everest Press has published thousands of books across a wide range of titles and is one of the leading publishing houses in our country. Our most distinguishing feature is that we are an independent publishing house. We have established working relationships with thousands of people through text messages alone. We try to print these texts in the best format possible. We cannot decipher the intent, but once the intent is expressed, we do the needful. In this case, we want you to know that we have parted ways with Azra Kohen. ”
Kohen’s books have been removed from many shopping websites, including “Kitapyurdu”, “D&R” and “BKM Kitap” and Everest Publications.
