The President did not sign the controversial amendment to the “Accumulated Pensions” law.

The Speaker of Parliament said at a meeting of the Bureau today that he will sign today a package of amendments to the law on “accumulated pensions”. These controversial amendments were not signed by the President.

The law will take effect immediately upon publication.

“During the spring session, we received a package of proposals on amending the law ‘Accumulated Pensions’. In response to this, we received a letter from Ms. Salome Zurabishvili, who neither signed the law nor responded with positive remarks, namely: considering the vetoes we saw before, i.e. “because” as an argument, this time Ms. Salome did not seem to want to come to the parliament with the “because” argument, so she did so. Therefore, in accordance with the Georgian Constitution, I will sign this law today,” said Papuashvili.

Later, Presidential Secretary for Political Affairs George Mskiladze held a briefing on the issue, explaining that this did not mean sending the law back to Parliament with comments, and that the President exercised his constitutional right to send the law back to Parliament.
