“The opposition has fled the battlefield…”

In an interview, he responded to some questions from The Express in written form.

Your candidature for the No. 10 by-election has been confirmed. Are you ready to enter the political arena?

Submitting an application is an important step both at the Morrison Coalition level and on a personal level. I grew up in an environment of political, social and cultural engagement. All of this is built around a discipline and a structure that allows us to achieve goals related to social progress and living together. Politics is not new to me and being a candidate is part of a desire to serve the country through participation in a political party.

From yesterday to today, there is one truth: change, not constant. Political commitment is necessary to help build the structures needed to cope with these changes. Today, we are facing an unprecedented situation of climate change and daily technological evolution. This commitment includes contributing to the adaptation phase and building a world that adapts to the younger generations.

The opposition claims that this part will not be held and it is a strategy of the government to confuse opponents about the date of the next legislative elections…Are you worried about suffering the same fate as Vikash Nuckcheddy, the seventh candidate in the 2019 by-election?

I see things differently. To limit one’s views to a partial or legislative election in the face of the world’s great challenges is a lack of ambition, even foresight. To consider and participate locally is first and foremost a respect for the Constitution and the system. It is also a respect due to the residents and voters of Ward 10. The participation of residents of this constituency as candidates is a repudiation of the opposition, including those MPs who are paid by the state and would rather orphan their supporters. It is a lack of empathy and I understand the frustration of activists and the Labour Party. If you have the heart to abandon them for a month, a day or an hour, that is the cruel truth! The opposition will not hesitate to abandon voters forever.

Dignity is important and it is not fair for them to flee the battlefield. For our part, we have fulfilled our responsibilities in accordance with the requirements of the legislation and the wishes of the people, and we are proud of it.

Have you started campaigning in your constituency? How are you being welcomed by voters?

This is a constituency that I have known politically since 2000. My father, the late Raj Dayal, has very deep roots there. We are also familiar with the area as we are farming families for generations. The welcome was certainly warm.

Which project do you think is a priority?

As I told you, the world is a global village and voters are an integral part of this environment. The imperative remains to adapt to climate change and we must see the world through the eyes of young people and their aspirations; this is the main axis.

Nando Bodha, former general secretary of the Sun Party, spoke about the “suffering” your father, the late Raj Dayal, suffered in the MSM and wondered how you are able to defend the MSM’s colours and fly the orange flag today. What are your thoughts on that?

I had the opportunity to hear this statement and I cannot hide my surprise. First of all, this position seems to contradict the position of a party that prides itself on doing politics in a different way. The first press statement after submitting the candidates focused on “Dayal is so Garson!” No doubt it was disappointing to those who were expecting change from this announcement. The actions betrayed the intentions.

Nando Boda chooses to mention an alleged situation in which two of the protagonists, the late Sir Anerud Jagannath and the late Raj Dayal, are no longer in this world. It is not very serious, it is even mean. This situation proves that we must let young people with sincere beliefs emerge.
