The opposition party representatives informed the press at a press conference. According to the rules of procedure of the National Assembly of the Slovak Republic, a special session must be held within seven days.

The opposition of Śimković criticized personnel changes at the Slovak National Theatre (SND) and the Slovak National Gallery (SNG), among other things. The deputy chairperson of the Parliamentary Committee on Culture, Zora Jorova (PS), believes that Śimković does not have the slightest prerequisites for the post of minister. “In ten months, she has managed to destroy and erode almost everything that is beautiful and functional in our culture – public media, public funding, the reconstruction of monuments, iconic cultural institutions,” she concluded. Jaurová said that the ministry is managed by Lukáš Machala, secretary general of the Ministry’s Services Committee. She reminded that the theatre has been without legal representation for almost two weeks after the dismissal of SND chairman Matej Drlička. According to Jaurová, the administrator of the SNG, in his own words, knows nothing about art after the dismissal of director Alexandra Kusej. She added that Śimković and Machala are incompatible with local culture. She said that the government must rebuild immediately.

According to the opposition, Susko serves criminals and has resigned from the fight against corruption. They accuse him of appealing the case of former special prosecutor Dusan Kovalchik, who was convicted by the law, and of deciding to suspend the execution of the sentence until the Supreme Court of the Slovak Republic decides on the appeal.

“The attorney general has a certain legal space to release people who are serving sentences, but that does not mean that he will release corrupt elements who have been validly convicted. This is certainly something that the legislator never foresaw,” said Mária Kolíková, a former SaS attorney general who also helped implement changes to the criminal code, she recalled.

KDH MP Marián Čaučík added that what is happening in the government transcends all borders and should be dealt with by Prime Minister Robert Fico (Smer-SD). From the beginning of the government, the KDH said that Sinkovicova should not be the Minister of Culture. “Also because she is responsible for setting up the disinformation scenario,” said Čaučík.

He is expected to be transferred to September

Jaurová explained that the proposals were not signed by members of the Slovak Movement, but she believes they will attend the meeting. “We have indications that the National Assembly of the Slovak Republic will not have a quorum and therefore postpone the meeting to September,” she said in response to a question about whether it would be possible to discuss the recall proposals.

In order to call a special session, at least 76 deputies in the National Assembly are required to be present. However, the opposition has only 71 mandates.

Prime Minister Robert Fico (Smer) has already announced that he sees no reason to dismiss any minister. According to him, both parties acted and behaved in accordance with the law. Both Susko and Simkovikova have his support. In the case of the dismissal of the director of the cultural institution, Simkovikova insists that her actions were justified. Susko declared that in the Kovalchik case he acted in accordance with the standard institutions of the legal system.
